Summer courses at the universities of Madrid 2020

Summer courses at the universities of Madrid 2020

The number of summer courses offered by universities in Madrid increases every year. More and more national and international university students are coming to Madrid to train during the summer and take advantage of the opportunity to go sightseeing around the Madrid Region, as many of them are taught outside the city.

University summer courses, in general, are aimed at all types of students: undergraduate, postgraduate or master’s and also at professionals who are already in the job market and want to broaden their knowledge or retrain, this last group being increasingly numerous.

The courses deal with current social, cultural, scientific or political issues and many international students use them as a bridge to learn Spanish before starting a new university year in Madrid.

And with all the courses on offer, how do you choose the one that's right for you?

The first thing you must identify is the objective for which you decide to take the course, if you want to reinforce a professional or personal shortcoming, for example, or if on the other hand you want to turn your career around and learn about another subject completely different from your academic or professional training. There are cases in which the university's summer courses are taken to obtain credits for the master's degree being studied.

The length of the course and the price are two important issues when choosing which course is the most suitable for you. Public Universities usually have lower prices during these summer courses, although, generally, you have to overcome demanding filters to access them. However, if your problem is not the price, there are summer courses offered by private universities and business centres that you can access without these demanding filters.

Summer courses at private universities in Madrid range from 1,200 euros for 90 hours at a private university on business management, for example, to 20 euros for 8 hours of a course on social education. Scholarships are also available for this type of course, but you usually have to pay for the course before receiving the scholarship.

The place where the course is given is also an important criterion when registering, depending on whether you have good or bad public transport connections. Many of the universities' summer courses are held outside the city, and it is not always easy to get there; San Lorenzo de El Escorial is a very popular place for this type of course, and its accessibility by train is very good.
